SILX silk filled Comforters, Pillows and Mattress covers

According to Chinese legend, silk was discovered in 3,000 BC by Lady His-Ling-Shi, wife of Emperor Huang Ti, when a silkworm cocoon accidentally dropped into her hot tea. Fine threads from the cocoon unraveled in the hot water and silk was discovered.

Initially, silk was only used for the emperor and highest of dignitaries. Eventually noble and rich Roman and Greek families sought out this rare textile and the Silk Road to Europe was created to support the commerce. For centuries, silk was as valuable as gold and often used as currency in international trade.

The Chinese tightly guarded the secret of silk for over 2,000 years. Revealing the secret or smuggling silk worms, eggs or cocoons outside of China was punishable by death.

Today, silk continues to be a sought after luxury. SILX brings you the finest quality silk manufactured.

How Silk is Made

The silkworms that spin our silk are fed only pure mulberry leaves. The silk filling is made of hundreds of very thin hand-stretched layers of pure silk – this creates a uniform and strong but still lightweight layer of silk that will not migrate, bunch, separate, or break down over time. This construction is what creates the gentle, lightweight drape and uniform warmth characteristic of all SILX products.
Silk Facts

Silk is 100% hypoallergenic, and is a naturally inhospitable environment for dust mites. Therefore, silk can be a perfect choice for those with allergies, and an especially good choice for babies and children whose allergies may not be known early on. In addition, because silk is moisture resistant, any allergies to mold, mildew, or other spores can also be avoided.

Silk retains much less moisture than other textiles, and is resistant to mildew and dankness because of this quality. Silk has been used by royalty and other privileged persons in Asia and other regions for thousands of years because of its longevity, comfort, and luxury. Because of this moisture and mildew resistance, silk is an excellent choice for more humid climates or homes near the coast.

Silk is an exceptionally temperate fiber, meaning that it retains warmth from the body, but without retaining moisture, which provides for a much more dry and comfortable warmth. The effective, uniform drape of SILX silk prevents cold spots. Silk provides about the same level of warmth as down, but at about half the weight, and without the dampness and consequent heaviness that can be common of both down and cotton.
